Composer: Tadd Russo
Piece: Where Waters Bend (2006)

Notes:

Where Waters Bend was commissioned by the New Cumberland Town Band on the occassion of their 60th anniversary. Music of New Cumberland's ancestry echoes through the work which commemorates the rich cultural heritage of the borough, and pays tribute to the mystical convergence of the turning Susquehanna River and the twisting Yellow Breeches Creek. The work presents flavors of Native-American, French-Canadian, and Celtic melodies, referencing the convergence of the cultures that shaped the future of New Cumberland. Some passages evoke the motion of the river, while others reference the New Cumberland Town Band's roots as an American Legion Post Band with martial drumming. From the French and Native-American ancestry of the area's first settler, to the genuinely American spirit of the modern community and beyond, this work heartily celebrates Where Waters Bend.
